Do I need a TB test for a UK Student visa?
You need a tuberculosis test certificate if you are applying from one of the countries on the GOV.UK list and will be in the UK for more than six months. Only certificates from Home Office-approved clinics are accepted, and they are valid for six months.

Short answer: Yes if you are applying from a country on the Home Office list and coming for more than six months. The test must be at an approved clinic and the certificate is valid for six months.
Who needs it
Applicants who have lived in a listed country for the last six months, applying for a visa of more than six months. The list includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and about 90 others; check the GOV.UK page for yours.
What happens
A chest X-ray at an approved clinic, and sometimes a sputum test if the X-ray is unclear (which can add up to two months). Children under 11 usually have a questionnaire instead of an X-ray.
Cost and timing
Around £80 to £150 depending on the country. Book it two to three months before you plan to apply, so the six-month validity covers your application and travel.
